Battalion Chief James Canty encompasses over 25 years of experience with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).  Over his career, Canty has served in four of New York City’s five boroughs and remains well versed in fire and life safety training and response.  Canty is a subject matter expert (SME) on areas including, but not limited to, International Fire Code, NYC Fire Code, NYC Building Code, Rules City of New York (RCNY), NYC Housing and Maintenance Code, The New York State Labor Law and New York State Multiple Dwelling Law.

Some of Canty’s professional qualifications include Hazardous Material Technician I and II, FDNY/United States Military Academy Counterterrorism Leadership Program, Fire Service Leadership Program Incident Command System (ICS), OSHA 10 Construction Industry Safety and FDSOA Incident Safety Officer.

James Canty was awarded the FDNY Administrative Medal in 2010, which is the highest administrative medal awarded by the New York City Fire Department, for establishing and serving as Executive Officer of the FDNY’s Building Inspection Safety Program (BISP) Unit.  Canty was also awarded the World Trade Center Medal for participation on September 11, 2001 operations at the World Trade Center.

Canty graduated cum laude from St. John’s University.
